The Peter M. Goodrich Memorial Foundation was created after Peter was flown into the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The Foundation has helped educate young Afghans in Afghanistan and the U.S. In August 2021, when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the foundation helped a family of 9 get out of their country. They escaped with nothing and left the only lives they had known.

They are now living in a small house in Southern Vermont made possible under a new refugee resettlement program—the Sponsor Circle Program. Peter’s Sponsor Circle was created for this purpose and its members have worked to guide the Afghan family through entry into lives here. The family will spend the next several months learning English, acclimating to life in this country and becoming self-sufficient. As we have welcomed them into our community, they have welcomed us into their lives and culture.
